hessequa thusong mobiles 2013/14The Hessequa Jamboree project is an attempt by Hessequa Municipality to bring government to the people, especially to the rural areas. The Service Delivery Jamborees are underpinned by the eight Batho Pele principles, most notably that of access. Communities must have access to key government services. To ensure that communities have the necessary access to these services, the Jamborees were adopted as a model for providing access within the communities. Essentially, a Jamboree is a ‘one-stop shop’ for government service delivery. A number of key departments are brought together in a venue located within a community to deliver services. National, Provincial and Local Government Departments integrate their services at the Jamboree to ensure that clients are able to access all the services within this venue, without being sent from pillar-to-post. Each department has a senior official on-site to deal with ‘problem cases’ so that these clients can be assisted at the Jamboree. In those instances where the client absolutely cannot be assisted at the Jamboree, they are referred to the district office for immediate assistance.
